The Best of Argentina

(Wednesday, September 14, 2016) — When you see that the wines are Malbec your first impulse may be to stop reading. Keep reading. These are not your run of the mill LCBO Malbecs. Anyone visiting Argentina comes back marveling at the wines and wondering why they are so seldom available here. These are great wines, produced in limited numbers and priced to match their quality. You can experience some of the best of Argentina’s Malbecs without the trouble of the long air flight.

From Catena Zapata are the 2007 Malbec Adrianna single vineyard and 2007 Malbec Nicasia single vineyard. Catena Zapata is considered by many to be the top producer in the region. We also have the 2007 Malbec single vineyard Adolfo Ahumada and 2007 Malbec single vineyard Fausto Orellana de Escobar, both from Trapiche.

The other four are premium blends, including the Cheval des Andes 2005 (Malbec, Cabernet +) which is a joint venture between Moet Hennessy and the famed St. Emilion 1st Growth, Chateau Cheval Blanc. This wine is consistently one of the top rated wines of Argentina. We also have Vistalba 2006 Corte (Malbec and Cabernet) and Mendel 2008 Unus (Malbec and Cabernet). Rounding off the list is Achaval Ferrer 2007 Quimera (28% Malbec plus Merlot, Cab Sauv, Cab Franc).

When presented with the top Malbecs for the first time, people are often surprised at their quality – they are nothing at all like their low cost, high volume compatriots. One of the great advantages of a club like ours is that you can have experiences like this at a reasonable cost. If you are familiar with these wines you’ll no doubt register quickly. If you are not, then take a chance, we think you will not be disappointed.

As always with our tastings, this event will be strictly non-smoking, and we request your cooperation in not wearing any scented after-shave or perfume. Using public transit is strongly encouraged.
