Burns Night (Bruichladdich)

It has been more than a decade since Winetasters ventured into the world of scotch nosings and as far as anyone is able to remember, the event was a smashing success. We are celebrating the iconic Scottish lyricist and poet on the day of his birth with a wee dram of the distilled gold with a decidedly Winetasters style. We will be featuring six scotches from distillery of Bruichladdich, five of which have been finished in different wine casks (Bordeaux First Growths!) and the sixth being their Laddie Classic scotch as a “control sample.” Rita Bordin from Free House Wine will be conducting a short tutorial on scotch nosing utilizing the Laddie and the remainder will be nosed/tasted blind. The six scotches are:

Cuvee E, 16 year old, Ch d’Yquem Cask finished

Nose: Wood, slight hint of rubber, faint redcurrant, wine and just the slightest hint of aniseed. Palate: Smooth but with a slight peppery tingle in the middle and front of the palate. Redcurrant, blackberry and creamy toffee.
Cuvee B, 16 year old, Ch.Latour Cask finished
Nose: Nutty. Oily, buttery. Stewed fruits, molasses. Espresso, berry fruits, unlit cigars. Palate: Rich, fruity, sugared peels, stone fruits, peppery spices, oak. Chewy.
Cuvee D, 16 year old, Ch. Haut Brion Cask finished
Nose: Refined, subtlety. Fresh, green character. Zesty orange, pink grapefruit, dried peels and old rope. Palate: Full and thick. Silken. Winter spice, herbal, plenty of zesty orange.

Tasting notes: blackcurrant, pomegranate, mulberry, cherry, liquorice, toast, peat smoke
Murray McDavid Laphroiag 1999, Ch. Lafite Cask finished- bottled by Bruichladdich
Tasting Notes: cranberry, raspberry, plum, cherry, mocha, toast, peat smoke

Nibbles, above and beyond the customary bread and water will be provided suitable for the occasion.

As always with our tastings, this event will be strictly non-smoking, and we request your cooperation in not wearing any scented after-shave or perfume.
